What staying in Nimman is like
Nimmanhaemin — almost always shortened to Nimman — grew up around Chiang Mai University and has become the city's design and café district. Streets are lined with independent coffee roasters, boutique shops and a dense cluster of restaurants, and the area has a noticeably younger, more international energy than the Old City. It's a popular base for digital nomads thanks to reliable wifi and a genuine co-working scene.
Accommodation style
Nimman's hotel scene leans boutique and mid-to-upper range, from design-forward hotel groups with rooftop pools to smaller boutique properties tucked down side sois (lanes). It's generally a step up in polish — and price — from equivalent Old City options, reflecting the area's newer buildings and higher café-and-retail rents.
What's within walking distance
- Maya Lifestyle Shopping Center, a large mall with cinema and food court.
- One Nimman, an open-air retail and dining complex that's become a social hub in its own right.
- Dozens of specialty coffee shops, several of which are destinations in their own right for Chiang Mai's coffee scene.
- A short songthaew or ride-hail trip to the Old City temples and the Sunday Walking Street market.
Who Nimman suits
Nimman is the right call if you want modern comforts, good coffee on every corner, and a base for working remotely, and you don't mind trading some old-town character for that convenience.
